Money is abstract. For a lot of people linking spending to how much you earn to how much you want to save is nearly impossible. The True Value Calculator is an Android budgeting app for humans. This app translates what you spend in dollars into the amount of time each item costs you. While also showing actual wages after expenses and taxes are counted.
Building the site
The UI Library to the right was developed towards the end of the project after several design iterations were made with input from an Android developer.
As the UX and product designer my goal was to create a minimalist design. A human centered design for this budgeting app meant highlighting spending patterns.
Results
Due to time limitations this closed card sort was conducted with six user interviews. As you can see in the image to the left the on-boarding and calculator columns had a high level of disagreement among the interviews.
Results from these interviews lead to placement changes with the calculator page changing to include the list of expenses. This also lead to the design of an interactive on-boarding experiance where users would be required to enter a base level of information.
Working on the release developer several design changes which contirbuted to a better relase version. The budget portion showed previously spent items on the bottom which prioritiezed a viewers top down way of looking at products. Spacing in the final version was also narrowed down to allow a cleaner visual interface and show.
